YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK

A place unlike any other.

Yellowstone's history dates back more than 11,000 year. For thousands of years before the park was even established people would gather there to fish, hunt, gather plants and use the thermal waters for religious and medicinal purposes. All the history and stories of Yellowstone are preserved in archaeological sites. During the little ice age, tribal stories of the Kiowa tribe place their ancestors here from C.E. 1400 to 1700. The sites hold information on religion, activities and more. These archaeological sites are now used to study those that were here in the past. European Americans  didn't begin to arrive and
explore until the early 1800s. The Yellowstone National Park however wasn't established until 1872. Shortly after that in 1883 the railroad was built which made visitor access a lot easier.

Now Yellowstone is very well know for its geologic features. This national park is well known for some of the Earth;s most active, hydrothermal (water +heat), and earthquake systems. This is only some of what makes Yellowstone great. The park is also home to a lot of diverse wildlife. There are nearly 300 species of birds, 16 species of fish, five species of amphibians, six species of reptiles, and 67 species of mammals—including seven native ungulate species and two bear species. Make sure that you bring a pair of binoculars to watch the beautiful animals. Take care that you don't get to close though it is actually illegal to willfully remain near or approach wildlife, within any distances that may disturb these beautiful animals. If you cause an animal to move, you are too close.

The parks standard hours are seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm. The park is closed for holidays though so make sure that you keep that in mind during your visit.
